When the baby is born and comes home, he/she gets a concern about the care of the parents, especially if they are their first baby. Families are usually attached to points such as the temperature of the bath water, the temperature of the house, the hygiene of the umbilical cord, shampoo, rash cream and diaper selection. If you wash and care for your baby by paying attention to some details, with calmness and pleasure, you can quickly implement the daily routine. In this article, we have compiled and written the methods for dear mothers to enjoy the daily care of their newborn babies.

Delightful bathrooms…

The health ministry no longer recommends washing for at least six hours after babies are born. This is because the white-yellow creamy layer called vernix caseosa, which covers the baby’s entire body at birth, provides the temperature balance against the world where the baby opens its eyes. At the end of 6 hours, the mother can bathe her baby in the hospital with the help of nurses if she wants.

If you want, you can give your baby who comes home from the hospital a bath right away. Taking a bath every day under running water before the umbilical cord falls and in your private bathtub after the umbilical cord falls contributes positively to the development of your newborn baby. Newborn Nurse Esra Ertuğrul from Canbebe Expert Team recommends using shampoo every day, having a special net, apart or towel in the bathtub. It is indicated as the ideal time for bathing between two feedings; because the baby with a full stomach may vomit, while the hungry one may get cranky. During washing, the mother should definitely support the baby under her head with one hand and never take her hand off until the bath is over. The temperature of the whole house should be 23° – 24°. Heating the bathroom more than other parts of the house causes the baby to get cold after the bath. The ideal temperature for bath water is 36° – 37°. Pump shampoo, washing sponge, rash cream, massage oil, towel-cheese, cloth and clothes, which are special for babies before bathing and provide ease of use even with one hand, should be replaced in a way that you can easily take.

It is important to act without rushing and scaring the baby during washing. After washing your baby on your back, do not turn him/her on your lap, pull him/her towards you with a support from his/her neck and turn him/her on his/her face. Raise the head a little higher and wash it, but definitely do not play with the ears. When you get to the rinse area, lay your baby on one arm, facing the tub. Water does not get into his eyes in this way, even though water gets into his face, it flows away because his face is facing the bathtub. Always talk sweetly and communicate during washing, do not panic so that your baby can enjoy the relaxing effect of water. Carefully dry the entire body so that it does not stay wet with a soft cheesecloth that you will lay in the towel after the bath. Then apply it to the whole body, which remains slightly moist with baby oil, because babies’ skin is close to dry. Your baby will be relieved with the moisturizing process that you will apply by giving a very light massage after the bath. In particular, clockwise massage of the colic baby’s abdomen is very good.

After the massage, you can dress him/her and make a half swaddle to keep his/her stomach and feet warmer and prevent gas pains. Then breastfeed immediately and put to sleep. It takes a total of 15 minutes to wash, massage and dress your baby. Use a few jumpsuits only when going to sleep at night. The baby who sees the sleeping bag you choose from red, black or white will be conditioned to sleep. Babies can choose a distance of about 20 – 25 cm and these colors a little more clearly when they are first born. Your baby, who cannot distinguish his/her sleep day and night for the first months, may have a dark room during the day, but the sound and order in the house should continue so that he/she can gradually understand the difference between night and day.

Keep calm during the bath, do not panic if you get cold. Remember, if you get anxious, he’ll get anxious and start crying. Newborn Nurse Esra Ertuğrul from Canbebe Expert Team recommends that your baby be washed every day after being born with low weight, colic and newborn jaundice.  Important note, the infant with neonatal jaundice tends to fall asleep. Do not let your baby meet with water until you are sure that he/she has woken up before the bath.

How do you get rid of the mansion?

The host is seen in the first 3 months of the baby’s life, on the scalp, sometimes on the eyebrows and forehead. Regardless of how carefully it is looked at, in some babies, the hormones passed through the mother accelerate the formation of fat on the skin and cause the host. Mothers who have mansion problems should not worry; because the problem is solved with a few easy applications. The shelled host should not be peeled by hand, the shelled structure should be moistened frequently. For this, baby oil, pure olive oil or almond oil can be used.  Oil is applied to the problem area and left for 1 hour, and then washed and cleaned with baby shampoo. After washing, the scalp is combed very lightly with a comb with small balls on the tip. This method can be applied several times. If the host problem recurs frequently after a while, the doctor’s opinion should be obtained.

Don’t be afraid of the umbilical cord

Your baby can also be washed without dropping the umbilical cord. You can bathe your baby under running water without damaging the umbilical cord. After the bath, it is important to dry the area completely with a hair dryer and wipe it with 70% alcoholic antiseptic liquid and gauze with delicate touches. You can take a bath again 1 day after the umbilical cord falls off. If there is redness around the umbilical cord when you touch it, or if you feel that the child is hurt when you touch that ligament, if a yellowish liquid flows, you should definitely go to the doctor.
