Maternity Bag

Remember to check the list below when preparing your hospital bag before birth.

Hospital Bag for Mother

Hospital documents, ID and insurance card

Have a copy of your medical records handy so your doctors can easily review your medical history. Hospitals will request your ID, health cards and insurance documents in advance. So have a copy of these ready.

Birth plan (if applicable)

You may have discussed your birth plan with your health care team, but remember to take a few copies of the plan with you so that doctors and nurses can easily review it if last-minute questions arise.

Bathrobe

A soft bathrobe will be very handy to walk around comfortably during your time in the hospital, before or after childbirth.

Socks

Your feet may get cold during childbirth.

Slippers

You'll need a comfortable pair of slippers that are easy to put on and take off while walking around the hospital. You can also take a pair of bath slippers with you.

Lip balm

Your lips may crack during childbirth. A lip balm that you have on hand moisturizes and relaxes your lips.

Body lotion or massage oil

Some mothers may want to have a little massage to relax during childbirth. If you're one of these moms, don't forget to put some lotion or massage oil in your delivery bag.

Water spray and sponge

If it gets hot during childbirth, spraying some water on your face and neck or putting a wet sponge on your forehead can relax you.

A comfy pillow

Do not forget to bring your favorite pillow at home, in case you are not comfortable with the pillow that your hospital will provide you.

Relaxing materials

Put a few things in your bag to help you pass the time, such as a book, magazine, movie-series downloaded tablet, or a music player.

Eye mask and earplugs

An eye mask and earplugs that you will use in the dense and bright rooms of the maternity ward may be just what you need to get some rest during the waiting moments or to get that sleep you deserve after birth.
